5 Things Parents Should Know About Narconon

These are some of the main things that make the Narconon program successful:

•         Narconon does not think that addiction is a disease; we think that addiction can be cured if you can get into the right mind setting. We believe that once a person gets into a sober life style, they are no longer an addict. Narconon believes that when people start to abuse drugs and alcohol, it is because they have experienced physical and emotional pain, and they are dealing with it by using drugs and alcohol. Instead of wanting to face the problem head on, they use drugs and alcohol to mask their feelings and hide the pain so that they do not have to deal with it.
•         Narconon’s treatment program has 8 phases. When you put all of these phases together you can achieve full physical detoxification, find the root cause of addiction, learn how to identify and fix problems, and they will gain skills to change conditions for a better life.
•         Our relapse prevention program plays a big part in recovery, this is included throughout treatment and will help the addict identify and handle any common causes that may trigger a relapse.
•         We do not use medications during our program or discharge plan, except for people who may need medical detox. We do not recommend medication for any kind of drug substitute. We have discovered throughout all of our years of treating drug and alcohol addiction that when substitute medications are used there is a poor result.
•         We have a very high level of care and understanding at our facility. All of our staff understands that it is important that we treat everyone that enters the program with respect and dignity. Many of our staff members have overcome addiction themselves, so they know the struggles and problems that the people we are treating go though.

Therefore they can better help them with their problems.

Narconon has been successfully treating addiction since 1966. We have proven that if an addict can overcome the main problem that caused the addiction they can have a sober life.

Detox:

Many people do not know that when you use drugs, or alcohol they contain toxins and these toxins are ingested and put through a digestive and filtration process, this will get rid of most of the toxins but not all of them. The part of the toxin that stays in your body will be converted into a protein based molecule called a metabolite. Once the toxins are turned into metabolites, some of them will leave the body through sweat, and urine, and some of the metabolites will bond with fatty cells and store in your fatty tissue for long periods of time. Each metabolite contains a small amount of the drug that you were using, and are identifiable. This is what shows up in a drug screen. Even if you have not done drugs for a while these metabolites can open back up, and release these toxins back into your body causing a craving. These drug toxin metabolites can serve as a memory and remind you of what you felt when you were doing drugs and this is a cause of a craving. At Narconon we have a program called The New Life Detoxification program. This program confronts this physical part of addiction. During The New Life Detoxification Program the addict will do light aerobics, sweat in a dry heat sauna, and they will be put on a specific vitamin regimen. They will have to get a full physical and medical approval by a licensed physician, before they can begin this part of treatment. This program will help break down and eliminate the stored drug and alcohol metabolites. This program runs daily for about five hours, and can take from 2 to 6 weeks to complete.
